About the Cover:
The buildup of excess uric acid (UA) in the body, derived from dietary purine, can lead to hyperuricuria and increased risk of a number of diseases of the joints, liver, and kidneys. The vast majority of UA is excreted through urine, and reliable methods for its detection in this form are not well-developed. In this work, stable and luminescent phosphonate metal–organic frameworks and composite derivatives were synthesized and successfully utilized for detecting urinary UA based on On–Off–On luminescence patterns. The composite exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity for UA, and, furthermore, it was demonstrated that powders and test paper prepared from the sensors can be implemented for the diagnosis of hyperuricuria.
